Residents have three options to get rid of their real Christmas tree for free after the festivities have ended.

Option 1 – Residents with Garden Waste collection permit can simply place their un-decorated tree in their green bin and the Council will pick it up on the usual collection days throughout January. The Council can collect trees with a trunk of up to 90mm (3.5”) in diameter. Ideally larger trees should be cut in half or in pieces to allow the bin lid to close.

Option 2 – From Monday 8 to Friday 19 January, residents can take their tree to one of the 27 collection points across the District. The locations and times of this free service can we viewed at www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/christmastree or by calling the Council on 01732 227000. Again, the Council can take trees with a trunk of up to 90mm (3.5”) in diameter.

Option 3 – Residents can take their tree to one of Kent County Council’s Household Waste Recycling Sites. KCC will take larger trees. Visit www.kent.gov.uk/recycling or call 03000 41 73 73 to book a slot.

Cllr Margot McArthur, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Cleaner and Greener, says: “When residents decide it’s time to take the decorations down, there will be three easy ways to dispose of their real Christmas tree for free. Whatever method they choose, the trees will be composted, which is good news for the environment.”
