The Darent Valley Community Rail Partnership has launched a new app to showcase the amazing walking trails you can take from the train stations along the route.

The picturesque rail line runs from Swanley to Sevenoaks with stops at Eynsford, Shoreham, Otford and Bat & Ball.

The trails can be downloaded and used offline and they offer a whole range of options, from short circular walks to long panoramic trails along the hills surrounding the valley. They include beautiful views, historical places of interest and places to stop along the way.

The routes have been put together by the Darent Valley Landscape Partnership Scheme, the Darent Valley Community Rail Partnership, which includes Sevenoaks District Council, and walking enthusiasts who live in the area.

Sevenoaks District Council’s Cabinet Member for People and Places, Cllr Lesley Dyball says:

“The Rail Trails are a wonderful opportunity to get outside and explore the local area whilst leaving the car at home.

“Each of the walks starts and ends at one of the stations in the Darent Valley Community Rail line which is served by Southeastern or Thameslink trains.

“Along the route you’ll find a medieval deer park, a chalk stream, a Victorian viaduct, Roman villas and riverside villages. There’s usually a good pub or tearoom within proximity too!

“This is a great example of partnership working between the Council, the Darent Valley Community Rail Partnership and the Landscape Partnership. We’d also like to mention and say a huge thank you to local volunteer, Alan Dyer, who came up with and tested most of the walks.”

The trails can be downloaded on the App Store or Google Play by searching ‘Darent Valley Trails’. Paper copies can be found at some of the Rail Partnership railway stations.
